A NeepawaVotes.com user asked:

Would you promote a new hospital at Neepawa or Franklin?

The Candidates responded:

Bob Durston

Regarding a new hospital, the decison has been made from the input of the communities and municipalities for a regional hospital which was accepted by the ARHA and proposed to the Provincial Goverment. We need a new hospital as the Neepawa hospital was renovated in 1985 to extend its life by 20 years. The final location will be determined by the Provincial Goverment as they will be providing the majority of the funding. My understanding that this decison will be forthcoming. I am in favour of a regional hospital for us and for the Province to create regional hospitals throughout Rural Manitoba to serve our health needs now and into the future.

Ken Waddell

If the option is available to have a new large hospital at Neepawa, we should lobby for it. If the only option is Franklin then  we work on that option. We must understand that due to provincial budget constraints it may be a long time before any hospital is built.

Allan Drysdale

New hospital - my position has always been that if it is built out of Neepawa, it should go east. When the idea was first floated, it was suggested that east would not work because that would require two provincial districts to work together. I know it can happen because we have had ambulance service from Gladstone here in Neepawa. It doesn't make sense for an ambulance to come 10 minutes east from Minnedosa when for another ten minutes it can be in Brandon. Let's look at the larger picture and give better service to the Plumas, Glenella, Gladstone areas.

Sheri Grant

The citizens of Neepawa and surrounding area deserve the very best healthcare possible. As a new hospital would be mainly funded by the province it will be their final decision. Certainly I think it makes more sense to me to have it in the Town of Neepawa as we are the epicentre of the area and I would lobby for that, but, if the trade-off if you will is a location in Franklin then we would have to accept that.
