Your Questions...
NeepawaVotes.com will be posting your questions and the candidates responses throughout the election. Do your part to make an informed choice and submit your question above! Here are Allan's responses to questions:
Question: What is your plan on fixing the infrastructure problem that has been ongoing in Neepawa. There continues to be development to the west (which is good for the town) ie: Personal Care Home/Ambulance Garage/Aspenlea/10 unit housing block/residential housing/McGlaughlin GM,Westward Ford,Bayhill,Piston Ring,Subway,Tim Hortons to name a few yet the old infratruture has not been updated to handle the increased use. There has been alot of issues with residence on this issue but never been addressed by previous or current council, if elected what would your decision be to resolve this?
Answer: Since I am getting involved for the first time, I can only say that I hope the new council can correct the lack of forward planning we've seen over the past few years. The town should have in place a 10 to 20 year plan for development and likewise for infrastructure upgrades.
Question: A few council meetings ago
a discussion was had which revealed several sitting councillors had been
encouraged to run by Monty Simon. In this election - did Simon encourage you to run?
Answer: I haven't spoken with Monty for several weeks and that last time we
did speak, the topic wasn't discussed at all - I hadn't even thought
of running then.
Question: What is your position on the recent vote by Council to discontinue the discount structure for early payment of property taxes in the Town of Neepawa?
Answer:
On the early tax payment discount - if very few were using it, then
the added paperwork probably didn't warrant keeping it in place.
Question: New Hospital Neepawa or Franklin witch one would you promote?
Answer:
New hospital - my position has always been that if it is built out of
Neepawa, it should go east. When the idea was first floated, it was
suggested that east would not work because that would require two
provincial districts to work together. I know it can happen because
we have had ambulance service from Gladstone here in Neepawa. It
doesn't make sense for an ambulance to come 10 minutes east from
Minnedosa when for another ten minutes it can be in Brandon. Let's
look at the larger picture and give better service to the Plumas, Glenella, Gladstone areas.
Question: If elected to council what will you do
to ensure that the town stop wasting money on bad decisions? For
example a past council allowed a two inch water line to be installed
instead of the larger one. But there weren't any apparent repercussions
except that taxpayers will pay to fix the problem at some point.
Answer: Mistakes have been made
in the past and dwelling on them gets us nowhere.
Council members and staff are human and therfore not perfect. We
will all
try our best to prevent more mistakes from happening but don'y expect
perfection, I've made a few mistakes in the past.
Question: How do all candidates feel about town subsidy to the Neepawa Golf and Country Club when their financials showed a profit?
Answer: Did the Golf Club show a profit? They need all they can get to pay down their mortgage. I'll have to look into that a bit deeper.
Question: Question as to what the candidates feel should be happening in regards to
the Eastview lodge location in Neepawa.
Answer: Eastview Lodge is out of our hands - the best we can do is urge the provincial government to do something with it quickly.
